Some of the largest celebrations in Canada are held in Calgary, which is home to some of the country’s top festivals. The city hosts around 80 different types of celebrations, ranging from those centred on cuisine, innovation and science to others centred on salsa, quilting, and railroads.

Calgary Comic & Entertainment Expo

The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo is a massive celebration of pop culture in which nerdy things of all kinds are honoured and praised.

Although the expo is best known for bringing together the whole ensemble of Star Trek: The Next Generation, it has also played host to the actors from the cast of The Karate Kid, The Lord of the Rings, and the stars of the long-running British television show Doctor Who.

You will get the opportunity to participate in hands-on workshops and question-and-answer sessions with artists, actors, and writers who will be discussing their future projects at the Entertainment Expo & Calgary Comic.

The autograph sessions provide a wonderful chance for fans to communicate directly with their favourite actors. There will be costume contests for both children and adults, as well as a red carpet for cosplayers and a cosplay march through Downtown Calgary with thousands of participants.

Calgary International Beerfest

In the month of May, the Calgary International Beerfest hosts a multitude of tastings for attendees to partake in. It is home to over 200 breweries across Canada and features at least 700 different kinds of beer. Try a tropical IPA from Belching Beaver, a nutty brown ale from Old College Brewery, or a caramelly pale ale from Two Pillars Brewing.

All three breweries are located in Alberta. In addition to that, there is a significant assortment of artisan ciders and meads to sample.

While the Brew Master seminars are a terrific way to learn about the process of creating beer, the Cooking with Beer seminars examines all of the other delectable uses for beer that can be found.

Pop-up eateries in the surrounding area offer a selection of beers to go along with their savoury burgers, barbecue, deli sandwiches, and cakes. For the duration of the event, there will also be live entertainment available for your viewing pleasure.

Calgary International Film Festival

The Calgary International Film Festival showcases a wide variety of new films, the majority of which are directed by up-and-coming directors from Canada.

The festival selects some of the most original and recently released comedy, thrillers, and science fiction films, as well as films from around the world. You can also view films that cover subjects such as the science of climate change and classical music.

During the Calgary International Film Festival, the screenings of the Special Presentations are consistently among the most attended. Another fascinating component is called Generation Next, and it was selected by young people from the surrounding area to reflect their view of the world.

Attendees can hear actors and directors discuss the creative process that went into making their films on panels at the Behind the Screen events.
